| Over the past five months we have laid the following five foundations:
March 09: Jesus’ foundational parable in Mark chapter four: To receive God’s supernatural power we must plant and grow the living, incorruptible, spiritual seeds of God’s eternal promises in our heart.
April 09: As God’s Word is true, living, eternal and incorruptible; a failure to receive God’s supernatural power is always a failure on our part to successfully grow the seeds of God’s promises in our heart.
May 09: We are established through righteousness to qualify to receive the supernatural power of God’s Kingdom. Righteousness is God’s gift, received by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
June 09: God is love. The revelation that God is love is received as we meditate God’s covenant promises. The promises are the details of the blessing Jesus has secured for us through His death on the cross.
July 09: Our eternal life with God is guaranteed as we maintain faith in the blood of Jesus Christ. Our sin breaks our fellowship, NOT our relationship with God. God will never reject us, as long as we hold to our faith in the power of Jesus’ blood to remit all our sins.
This month we will lay another vital foundation: “How to be Led by the Holy Spirit”. The written Word of God in the bible gives us general guidance, but it is the Holy Spirit of God who gives us specific guidance concerning our personal decisions, and God’s direction for our lives. For example; decisions such as who we should marry, where we should live, what should be our occupation, and which church we should attend are not specified in the bible. Personal decisions like these are to be guided by the Holy Spirit.
For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. Romans 8:14
Scripture declares that the Holy Spirit is our leader. We, therefore, should learn to discern how the Holy Spirit communicates with us, so we are able to hear and follow His leadership. Otherwise we might find ourselves in the wrong place at the wrong time, rather than being lovingly led by the Holy Spirit into His wealthy place.
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit Romans 8:16
The Holy Spirit communicates His leadership and direction to us by bearing witness with our spirit. To bear witness means to: testify jointly, corroborate by evidence, testify unto, and bear witness with (Strong’s Dictionary). The Holy Spirit sends a spiritual evidence, or spiritual witness, to our spirit. This is NOT an open or closed door, a prophetic word, or a voice in our ears. This is NOT something external; but it is rather an internal spiritual witness of God to our Spirit.
But the anointing which ye have received of Him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him 1 John 2:27
The anointing is: an unguent or smearing, the special endowment of the Holy Spirit (Strong’s Dictionary). Unguent is an ointment (Webster’s Dictionary). The anointing of the Holy Spirit is a gentle soothing touch of the Holy Spirit to our spirit.
Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love Him. But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit… the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual. But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned 1 Corinthians 2:9-10, 13-14
God reveals the things He has prepared and planned for us by His Spirit, by His anointing, the smearing of His Holy Spirit upon our spirit. This spiritual communication is foolishness to our natural senses; for this anointing, this leading of the Holy Spirit, is spiritually discerned. The Lord communicates to our spirit by His Holy Spirit. We need to therefore develop our ability to discern His inward witness unto our spirit.
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself 1 Corinthians 14:4
The Holy Spirit has given a spiritual gift to the body of Christ, of speaking in words which no man understandeth (1 Corinthians 14:2). This is referred to as “unknown tongues.” Exercising the spiritual gift of speaking in unknown tongues has the effect of edifying or building up our spirit. This is important in terms of discerning the witness of the Holy Spirit to our spirit. When our spirit is edified, as a result of us praying in unknown tongues, we will be more successful in discerning the leading of the Holy Spirit.
For a born again Christian to exercise the gift of praying in unknown tongues, he or she must first receive the baptism with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:4-5, 8, 2:4, 8:15, 10:44-46, 19:6). Pray with me: “Father in heaven, thank you that you have placed your Holy Spirit within me to provide leadership in my decision making process. Thank you that the Holy Spirit bears witness to my spirit by His anointing. Thank you that I have the ability to spiritually discern the anointing of the Holy Spirit. I will do my part through diligently exercising your gift of praying in unknown tongues, so that my spirit is edified and built up. I know you will do your part to clearly communicate your leadership to my spirit. Thank you that I am blessed to have the Holy Spirit leading me into victory, in every part of my life. I am supernaturally blessed in Jesus Christ name. Amen!”
